HELLMAN

INTERIOR

A mid-century modern touch to a Craftsman home.

Belltown Design's bread and butter has long been Craftsman homes.  However, when we met Andrew and Emily Hellman, we recognized their desire to inject some modern touches into their traditional interior.  I think that we struck the perfect balance.

Plans to renovate their entire home started with the kitchen, as most remodels do.  The Hellman's had strong opinions about the island's function: it needed to be expansive, have ample book storage and feature an area dedicated to quick meals.  I proposed an interesting configuration that would meet all of their needs with one solution.

Working with an artisan-level mason, I designed a custom concrete island and matching countertops.  The hand-made backsplash tiles and light fixtures echo the custom elements and reinforce the Craftsman ethos that runs throughout this mid-century modern renovation.

Custom Designed

The Hellman's had very specific requirements for the kitchen's centerpiece.  Fortunately, a custom design can incorporate most any request.

Hand Built

Handmade elements like the island, backsplash tiles and lighting are rare in today's homes, largely because artisans with the patience and skill required to produce them are rare.  Here, the mold for the bookshelf is being built.

Artistically Executed

Masonry is truly an artistic craft.  Expert mason Ivan Lindblad deftly blended the individually precast segments so that the final result is seamless.
